Our Programs

National Youth Service

| More

National Youth Service is a program started to promote a culture of volunteerism amongst youth in Nepal. The development of Youth Initiative as an organization itself has been largely rooted on voluntary service of a group of enthusiast young people in Nepal. To realize and re-emphasize the importance of such voluntary service, YI has launched NYS as a program that can involve young volunteers at a large scale and promote youth volunteerism at a national level. NYS recognizes volunteerism as an important component of education and hopes to establish itself as a ‘hub of young volunteers’.

NYS aims to engage, educate and empower youth in Nepal through voluntary involvement in the areas of community development and nation-building by providing opportunities for:
  • Addition of practical component to education
  • Expansion of social circle
  • Life skills such as time/stress/conflict management
  • Development of positive self-esteem, confidence and responsible behavior
  • Development of inter-personal skills, leadership qualities and team work
  • Career-specific skill development
  • Habit of service to the community and of participation in community/national development
  • Inter-cultural understanding and respect through travel and work in new communities
Through volunteerism, to make young people active participants in community development and nation-building by involving them in areas not limited to:
  • Humanitarian services
  • Community services
  • Education
  • Health
  • Environment and sustainability
  • Differently-able and marginalized groups
  • Child development
  • Youth issues
  • Woman rights
  • Human rights, equity and justice
  • Peace and conflict
